Avvo has been derived from the Italian word ‘avvocato’ which means lawyer. The story of Avvo runs back to some years back when the cofounder of Avvo, Mark Britton was imparting financial education at Expedia.com. he noticed that in spite of his absence, his friends, associates and connections still sought his help in legal matters. So he decided that on his return back, he would build a legal association. This is how he built Avvo with the help of Paul Bloom and Sendi Widjaja. Thus Avvo was born.
Debate on the Avvo
There have been debates on the method of Avvo’s ratings and they were sued by 2 lawyers. Avvo’s ratings were not accepted by many of the attorneys and their method of argument was that Avvo’s method of rating was crooked and fraudulent. It was not in line with the Washington Consumer protection Act.
